As a child Song's family sold her into the slave trade in order to ease their financial burdens and she was sent to the underground market in Darris Rynn.  The operation was raided by agents of the Red Hand before she could be auctioned off and one of them, a woman named Maya, took pity on Song and adopted her as an apprentice and surrogate daughter.  Song was raised beside Maya's biological daughter, Iris.  The two grew up as close friends through out their childhoods and eventually fell in love as adults.  

 

 

Song was trained in Maya's skills as a shadow dancer, and upon completing her apprenticeship was inducted into the Red Hand as one of their assassins.  She served loyally for years alongside her surrogate mother figure, dedicated to the order.  Things changed when Maya was arrested by Paramar after being caught on a mission to assassinate High Paladin Terian Morris.  Song pleaded with the Red Hand to sanction a rescue.  They refused, canceled the contract altogether, and Maya was executed.  Song swore an oath to Iris afterwards that she would someday kill Terian herself and bring her the paladin's longsword.

 

 

Song grew bitter towards the order and slowly her loyalty began to fade as a result.  After being captured herself and sent to the Red Prison on a mission to spy on Kasavan, she was rescued by Kerin, Cadmael, and Leta who informed her the Red Hand had sent them instead of their own people, and that one of their comrades had been killed in the rescue effort.  It was the last straw for Song and she chose to defect.  

 

 

Not long after she came across a man on the verge of death in the middle of the Red Desert.  She nursed this man, Nash, back to health and the two became traveling companions.  Shortly into their travels they came across Song's rescuers, and Song chose to accompany them into the tomb of the earth aspect to repay her debt for her rescue, and Ursar's death.  After clearing the tomb she decided to stay and help them awaken the aspects, both out of a belief in their cause and seeing it as an opportunity to gain allies in her quest to kill Terian.
